Designers around the Globe have presented their Autumn/Winter 2011/12 collections back last winter. But for the consumer who was longing for the first warm spring day, it was out of question to bother about the fashion trends so early in the year.
Overview
The designers are expecting a tough winter with low temperatures – at least this is the message of their looks. It is about protection from cold and snow but not only! The dresses are also meant as general protection of the woman who wears them. The lines are sleek and the looks are powerful and aesthetic with clear focus on perfect tailoring. Sombre colours, fake and genuine furs, and a bold mix of textures and patterns…
Amazing Collections
I have gone through many collections which had been shown during the Fashion Weeks in Paris, New York, London and Milan, and I have chosen my favourites.

A Controversial Designer
John Galliano – he filled the headlines of all the newspapers around the world. Suddenly he was known to people who were so far never interested in fashion at all. Unfortunately he did not pay attention to the general new moral standards of Political Correctness and was caught on camera when he was obviously very drunk and saying some nasty things. No further comment on this issue!
Beyond this unfortunate incident and his dismissal with Dior, to me he belongs to the most gifted designers of the present time. He has always been one of my favourites. His flamboyant personal style reminds me of the eccentricity of the famous late artist Salvador Dalí who was so very inspirational for many fashion designers back in the first half of the 20th Century.
When John Galliano took over as head of design with Dior, I knew that he would bring back this brand and lead it to new heights. Indeed, he did!
Key Looks – Key Pieces
His winter collection 2011/12 shows stunning mixing and matching of dark gemstone colours in matte and shine, furs, heavy wools and lightweight silks. His over-knee boots are simply to die for. Each piece of his winter collection can be easily worn and matched with your everyday kit – and instead of looking out of place, it gives your look that special twist!
He shows a lot of velvet and tulle and fur. His capes and coats give every look this amazing Byronesque attitude. Wear his gemstone-coloured satin fabrics with strong matte black pieces and some leather and/or fur – and you’ll have a unique and stylish and comfortable look for the autumn/winter season…
